Overcharged for root canal and crown

I was told that I needed a root canal, so I shopped around for prices and found one particular dentist to be cheapest, based on what I was told over the phone. So I go in, he looks at me and gives me an estimate sheet for $900.00!!! Wow, that's a lot of money, and I borrowed it from my mother and am making payments back to her. I assume this $900 is for the entire procedure, including the crown. So I go in and have the first part of the root canal done and he gives me another estimate sheet for an additional $750.00 for the crown. I questioned this, as I was sure that I was told the $900.00 was the total cost. They said no. Isn't this an awfully lot to pay for one tooth. By the way, it's tooth #30. Please help, if I'm being ripped off, I'll go somewhere else for my crown.
